Construction has lately commenced on a new steel production project called Second Division Fengtai Casting Co. in China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, with production scheduled to start in May 2014, as announced by Second Division, Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps.
Investment in Second Division Fengtai Casting Co. is being made by Hebei Province-based Chinese foundry Fengtai (Handan) Alloy Casting Co., with total investment reaching RMB 8.4 billion ($1.33 billion). The targeted annual crude steel production capacity of the project is 3 million mt. The project will include construction of a coking plant, a raw material yard, two 180㎡sinters, three 1,080 m³ blast furnaces, two 120 mt converters, one 1.2 million mt pellet production line, a rebar production line with an annual output capacity of 1.6 million mt, a wire rod production line with an annual capacity of 1.25 million mt, a casting workshop with an annual production capacity of 150,000 mt and also other auxiliary facilities.
Meanwhile, according to statistics released by the local Xinjiang government, in the January-August period of the current year the aggregate outputs of pig iron, crude steel and finished steel in Xinjiang totaled 8.82 million mt, 7.677 million mt and 8.38 million mt, up 31.8 percent, 39.1 percent and 36.6 percent respectively, all year on year.
