Coal exports from Australia's Newcastle port continue to increase

In the week ended April 7, coal shipments from the Port of Newcastle in Queensland, the coal producing state of Australia, totaled 2.90 million mt, according to Newcastle Port Corporation. The figure constitutes an increase of 2.2 percent compared to the previous week ended March 31, in which a week-on-week increase of 1.6 percent in coal shipments had been observed.
 
The port authority has forecast that Newcastle port will ship a total of 12.49 million mt in April.
 
Anglo American, Peabody Energy, Rio Tinto and Xstrata are some of the larger exporters to ship coal from Newcastle port.
