Civil construction activity in Brazil improves in February

Civil construction activity in Brazil rose to 40.3 points in February this year from 35.2 points in February 2016, on a scale from zero to 100 in which values above 50 show growth, according to the country’s confederation of industries, CNI.
 
Brazilian civil construction activity also improved in a month-on-month comparison, from 39.3 points in January this year.
 
The utilization of the industry’s capacity in February declined to 53 percent, down from 55 percent in January, and from 56 percent in February 2016. February’s data indicates the worst performance of the industry in terms of capacity utilization since February 2012, when the indicator reached a 71 percent rate.
 
The indicator that measures the number of job positions in the industry slightly improved to 38.9 points in February, up from 38.4 points in January this year, and up from 35.5 points in February 2016.
