According to the data issued by London-based Iron and Steel Statistics Bureau (ISSB), in 2010 CIS nations' total steel exports saw an increase of just one percent year on year, amounting to 56.7 million mt, up from 56.4 million mt in 2009.
The main steel exporting countries in the CIS region remained Russia, with 27.2 million mt of steel exports in 2010 - down one percent year on year, and Ukraine, with 25 million mt of steel exports in 2010 - up five percent year on year. Meanwhile, Kazakhstan shipped 2.8 million mt of steel exports in 2010 - down 16 percent year on year, and Belarus exported 1.7 million mt of steel - down six percent year on year.
The major export markets for CIS steel products in 2010 were the EU-27, the shipments to which increased by 30 percent year on year to 14.6 million mt, the Middle East, to which 12 million mt of steel was shipped - down five percent year on year, and Asia, to which it was 11 million mt of steel was exported - down 22 percent year on year. Meanwhile, in 2010, steel shipments between CIS countries amounted to 7.9 million mt - up eight percent, CIS steel exports to non-EU Europe totaled 5.1 million mt - down six percent, exports to Africa amounted to 2.9 million mt - down 26 percent, while steel exports to the rest of the world from CIS countries totaled 3.3 million mt - up 85 percent, all compared to 2009.
