China’s manganese ore import up 21.42% through May

China imported a total of 2.14 million tons of manganese ore through the first five months of 2005, a 21.42 percent increase year on year. China's main sources of manganese ore include Australia, Brazil, Ghana, Burma (Myanmar), US, and South Africa. Manganese ore import from Australia rose more than 4 percent year on year to 578'500 tons. Australia alone accounted for 27 percent of China's total ore imports. Following Australia was Brazil, which saw its exports jump 176 percent year on year to 346'000 tons. Ghana was next with 287'300 tons (up 31.72 percent), followed by Gabon (211'100 tons, down 7.57 percent), Burma (170'000 tons, up by 81 percent), US (169'000 tons, up 443 percent), and South Africa (153'000 tons, down 34.67 percent).
