China’s Anhui Province to establish new iron and steel production base

The government of the Chinese province of Anhui is planning to establish a new high-quality iron and steel production and processing base by 2015, to be located in the Hefei economic zone in Anhui Province. The program includes a steel project with an annual capacity of 6 million mt in Huoqiu County, Anhui, with total investment in the project to reach RMB 20 billion ($3 billion). Another project is a special steel project in Lujiang County, Anhui, with an annual capacity of 3 million mt and with total investment reaching RMB 10 billion ($.5 billion), jointly built by Anhui-based Chinese steelmaker Maanshan Iron and Steel Corporation Ltd. and Lujiang Special Steel Co,. Ltd.
