The world's largest-diameter high-speed rail shield tunneling machine is currently operating 89 meters under the Yangtze River, as part of a major project, the Shanghai-Chongqing-Chengdu High-speed Railway, with an estimated total investment exceeding RMB 500 billion ($72.5 billion). The project is expected to drive value-added growth in upstream and downstream industries by almost RMB 1.5 trillion ($0.22 trillion).

This project extends from Shanghai to Chengdu, spanning approximately 2,000 kilometers. It connects three major urban agglomerations - the Yangtze River Delta, the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, and the Chengdu-Chongqing region. The rail project will generate demand for 570,000 mt of high-strength special steel.
