The China Iron and Steel Association (CISA) has announced that in August this year China’s Ministry of Commerce (MOC) issued iron ore import licenses for a total of 116.27 million mt, up 7.93 percent month on month, valued at $7.96 billion. In the January-August period of the current year, the MOC issued iron ore import licenses for a total of 963.34 million mt, valued at $68.6 billion.
In August this year, the iron ore import licenses issued by China for Australian and Brazilian iron ore amounted to 70.03 million mt and 27.6 million mt respectively, up 0.4 percent and 15.61 percent month on month, with respective values of $4.62 billion and $2.05 billion. In the January-August period of the current year, the iron ore import licenses issued for Australian and Brazilian iron ore totaled 584.99 million mt and 203.94 million mt, valued at $41.02 billion and $15.47 billion, respectively.
Licenses issued for imports of Indian iron ore in August amounted to 1.07 million mt, up 91.15 percent month on month, valued at $104 million, while licenses issued for iron ore from other countries amounted to 17.56 million mt, valued at $1.18 billion. In the January-August period of the current year, the import licenses issued for iron ore from India and
other countries amounted to 29.41 million mt and 144.99 million mt, valued at $2.05 billion and $10.04 billion, respectively.
