Canadian iron ore shipments drop 20.7 percent in August

According to Natural Resources Canada, shipments of iron ore in August totaled 3,269,545 mt, a 20.7 percent decrease from July and a 19.6 percent decrease from August 2016. Of that total, 429,748 mt was shipped to Canadian customers, while 2,839,797 mt was exported.

Year-to-date iron ore shipments totaled 28,835,309 mt in August, up 0.2 percent from the 28,791,200 mt shipped during the same period of 2016. Of the 2017 year-to-date total, 2,721,916 mt was sent to Canadian customers and 26,113,394 mt was exported.

Canadian iron ore stocks at the end of August totaled 3,041,107 mt, up 5.3 percent from July and up 24.9 percent from August 2016.
