According to Canadian media reports, Canadian finance minister Bill Morneau has informed a parliamentary committee that the government provided an exemption for 50 Canadian companies from retaliatory tariffs imposed last summer on C$16.6 billion worth of US steel and aluminum imports.

Explaining his relief plan for the international trade committee members, Minister Morneau said that 135 companies have submitted remission requests, but he stressed there is a process that must be followed.
