The Canadian International Trade Tribunal (CITT) has lifted antidumping duties on hot rolled steel plate from South Africa and Russia, stating that dumping of hot rolled steel plate from these countries is unlikely to result in injury or retardation.

Accordingly, the CITT said that the Canada Border Services Agency will no longer impose antidumping duties on the products in question.

However, the CITT ruled that antidumping duties would continue on hot rolled steel plate from China.

The antidumping duties in question were imposed after Hamilton-based Stelco, backed by other Canadian steel producers, had brought a complaint in 1997 against several countries, comprising South Africa, Russia, China, Mexico and Poland.
