Mexican steel association, Canacero, applauded Trump’s decision to not impose tariffs on the imports of Mexican goods.

The steel association said Trump’s decision on Friday to not impose a 5 percent tariff on Mexican goods was reached thanks to the efforts of Mexico’s foreign relations secretariat, the nation’s economy secretariat (SE), and the presidency office.

Canacero said the outcome of conversations between the two countries represent a “trilateral commitment” to fight unfair steel imports.

Canacero also thanked the Mexican government for its ability to reach a deal with the US to relieve what it labeled as “unfair tariffs imposed to (Mexican) steel and aluminum products in June 2018.”

“This is a triumph for Mexican diplomacy, which will result in improved industrialization for the country,” Canacero said.
