Brazilian slab shipments surge at Alabama port

A 98,694 net ton shipment arrived into the Port of Mobile, Alabama's Pinto Island Terminal from Brazil recently--the largest steel shipment ever recorded for the port. The shipment contained 4,243 steel slabs destined for ThyssenKrupp's flats mill in Mobile, Alabama.

According to the Port of Mobile, steel shipments from Brazil began arriving in November 2010, shortly after the steelmaker began operations at the mill. Throughout 2011, the port anticipates that it will handle approximately 3 million metric tons of steel from ThyssenKrupp.
