Bolivia looking for Chinese partners for Mutun steel project

The Bolivian government has sent an invitation to seven Chinese companies to establish a partnership for its Mutun steel project in the region of Santa Cruz, the nation’s mines ministry said.

Bolivia is now waiting their proposals and will evaluate them for a potential venture. From the seven companies that were invited, two went to Bolivia to inspect the site, according to the ministry’s statement. Complant Mechanical and China Railway have analyzed the area and are expected to send their proposals. The other five companies competing in the project are China Aluminum International, Sinosteel Equipment, CIPMIEC–Catie Group, Capital Engineers and China CAMC.

The Bolivian government will invest $400 million to install a mini steel mill to produce rebar. According to the Bolivian ministry, all the projects should include proposals for the production of DRI to cover domestic and export demand.
