Byelorussian Iron and Steel Works (BMZ) has placed a proposal before the Ministry of Industry of Belorussia for the construction of a new sheet-rolling mill with a designed annual capacity of 1.2 million mt of steel sheets. The estimated cost of the project in question amounts to about $2 billion.

The new mill is to use hot-briquetted iron and metallized pellets as raw material. With regard to the future, there are plans to double the mill's production capacity to 2.5 million mt.

The further development of the project is to be discussed at the technical-economical council of the Belorusian Ministry of Industry, which is to be held on October 9.

The Belarus government will initiate a tender for the construction of the new mill in the near future.
