The Belarusian Ministry of Industrial Policy has announced that the country will implement 24 industrial projects, several of which are directed toward development of its metallurgical sector.

One of the projects relating to the steel industry involves the construction of a new flats producer at a total cost of $1 billion. The commencement of production at the new plant will see Belarus's annual steel output rise to 3.5 million mt, Minister of Industrial Policy Anatoly Rusetzkiy stated.

In addition to the new flat rolling plant, other projects will include the construction of a new galvanizing mill and a new welded pipes producing plant.

During the 2009-2012 period, total investments in Belarus's metallurgical sector will amount to more than $2 billion.
