A blockade at Ternium’s Michoacán iron ore mine in the city of Aquila, in Michoacán, reached one month in effect last week, according to media reports.

Last month, local native residents blocked access to the mine, which is an important source of revenue for the economic activity of the region.

According to media reports, Ternium could lay off employees at the mine. On Friday the company notified workers that wages will be diminished, as a result of the halt in the operations at the site.

In a press release last week, Ternium said it has tried to resume operations at the site and solve conflicts with local community. The company stated that the blockade does not pose any risk to the production of steel for the company’s operations in the country.
