BHP upgrades its coating mill in Malaysia

The largest Australian steel producer BHP Steel Ltd. is going to upgrade its coated steel mill Bukit Kapar in Malaysia in order to meet the increasing demand of its premium coated steel product widely known as Clean Colorbond. The company will invest Ringgits 5 million (approx. $1.3 million) for this expansion plan. BHP Steel announced that Clean Colorbond's monthly export figures have increased to 10'000 tons from 7'000 tons in the last eighteen months. Furthermore, the company estimates a constant growth in demand, particularly from China. BHP Steel currently exports more than 15'000 tons of Clean Colorbond to China annually. The company also exports to other Asian markets including Vietnam, Singapore and Sri Lanka. BHP Steel produces Clean Colorbond for power stations, public buildings, leisure centres, airports, factories and pharmaceutical facilities. In addition, the company will use its own steel products in the expansion of Bukit Kapar.
