BHP Billiton delays reopening its Boodarie Iron plant

BHP Billiton has announced that it will not reopen its Booderie Iron Plant that was the site of a fatal explosion on 19 May 2004 until state investigators determine the exact cause of the explosion. That process is being delayed due to the complexity of the investigations. The Western Australian mill had been producing approximately 1.8 million mt of hot briquetted iron (HBI) per year until BHP halted production shortly following the explosion.
