Belarus has decreased the state order for ferrous scrap for 2010 by 16.7 percent year on year to 1.5 million mt.

In 2009 the Byelorussian state order for ferrous scrap amounted to 1.8 million mt - up 1.5 times compared to 2008. However, the volume of scrap which was actually procured by the state last year was about 1.5 million mt, and so the state order for this year has been reduced to this level.

The main consumers of scrap in Belarus are the enterprises of the Byelorussian Ministry of Industry - for which 555,000 mt of scrap are to be supplied in the current year, the enterprises of the Ministry of Transport and Communications - for which 160,000 mt of scrap are to be supplied, the Byelorussian Republican Union of Consumer Societies - for which 156,000 mt will be delivered, the Belarusian State Concern for Oil and Chemistry (Belneftekhim) - which is to receive 80,000 mt, the Ministry of Architecture and Construction - which is to receive 62,000 mt, and the Ministry of Energy - for which 50,000 mt of scrap will be supplied in 2010.
