Bayi Steel to reach 6 million mtpa in 2008
SteelOrbis Shanghai In the January-October period this year, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region-based Bayi Steel recorded considerable growth in pig iron and steel production compared with the same period last year. The mill's total steel production for the period in question reached 3.007 million mt, up 25.96 percent or 619,000 mt year on year, while finished steel totaled 2.754 million mt, up 20.03 percent or 459,000 mt. Total steel production for the whole year is expected to increase 26.81 percent year on year to 3.6 million mt, while finished steel production is predicted at 3.47 million mt, up 25.22 percent. Bayi Steel has already commenced production with its 110 mt capacity converter and 1,750 mm HR production line this year. The mill's cumulative production of HR sheet has reached 202,000 mt since the HR line was opened. According to their plans, Bayi Steel is to invest in many other new facilities in the upcoming period in order to raise competitiveness. Accordingly, the mill is expected to reach 6 million mt per annum capacity by the end of 2007 and achieve this production level in 2008.
