Baotou issues iron and steel capacity elimination targets for 2012

The municipal authorities in Baotou in China's Inner Mongolia region have announced that a total of 1.52 million mt of backward or outdated iron and steel production capacities are to be eliminated in the current year.

The capacities in question include a converter, which has already been halted, with an annual output capacity of 800,000 mt at Baotou Iron and Steel (Baogang Group). The other capacities respectively include 600,000 mt and 120,000 mt of backward iron-making capacities at Baotou Jiyu Steel Co. and Baotou Huyuan Special Steel Products Co.
