Major Chinese steelmaker Baosteel has selected UK-based plantmaker Primetals Technologies for the design, supply and installation of a new two-strand continuous slab caster for its steel plant in Shanghai, according to a statement released by the latter.

With a production capacity of 2.35 million mt per year and the ability to process slabs in different dimensions, the continuous slab caster No. 6 will allow the Chinese company to produce both conventional and silicon steel grades for several sectors such as home appliances and automotive.

Also, equipped with innovative technologies along with levels 1 and 2 automation systems, the new equipment will provide higher casting speeds and productivity, improving the product quality.

In late May this year, Baosteel had ordered a bow-type two-strand continuous slab caster for its plant in Zhanjiang, Guangdong, as SteelOrbis reported previously.
