Baosteel chooses Siemens for electrical equipment

The Siemens Industrial Solutions and Services Group (I&S) will provide Pudong Iron & Steel Group of Shanghai-based Baosteel Group with the electrical equipment for a new plate production line that is to be set up in Luojing. The order includes the automation, power-supply and drive systems for the rolling mill and downstream plate treatment stations. The installation will cost around €39 million and will be completed in the beginning of 2008. Baosteel is moving its facilities from Shanghai to Luojing. The new 1.6 million-ton annual capacity plate mill is designed to produce 5 to 200 mm thick plate with a maximum width of 4'200 mm. The plant will produce materials for gas and oil pipelines, pressurized containers, bridge construction and the shipbuilding industry. The rolling mill will include two heating furnaces, two plate rolling stands, an edger, a rapid-cooling system and a hot plate leveler.
