Australian mining giant Anglo American Corporation has decided to shut down its Aquila coal mine located in Queensland's Bowen Basin for maintenance works, according to media reports.

The decision to place the mine on care and maintenance as of late July is in line with the current market situation, said Seamus French, the CEO of Anglo American's metallurgical coal business, adding that the Bowen Basin operation is not viable at current coal price forecasts.
