Anglo American said on Tuesday it has extended the estimated duration of its halt at the Minas-Rio iron ore site from two to three months.

A spokeswoman did not respond to a request for comment on Tuesday.

Anglo said in a statement it will spend about BRL 60 million ($18 million) to repair a slurry pipeline between the states of Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro, which burst two times in March, leaking iron ore pulp and halting production at the site.

Anglo said it will grant part of its employees collective vacations for 30 days, effective on April 17. Anglo said about 200 people are working near the slurry pipeline in Santo Antonio do Grama, Minas GErais state, to clean up a local river.

The causes of the bursts are yet to be determined, the company said, adding a local research institute is investigating the incidents.
