Algeria’s cabinet of ministers has decided on several emergency measures to deal with problems relating to the El Hadjar steel complex. The facility was forced to stop its production several times this year due to various reasons - flooding, raw material supply disruption, as well as low sales activity.

In particular, it was decided to introduce the obligation for all companies in charge of public projects to use local steel products, and specifically products from El Hadjar. In addition, during the ministerial meeting it was decided to involve the intervening mining and transport authorities in order to secure regular raw material supply and to avoid production disruptions through the mobilization of additional transport and trucks, SteelOrbis has learned. On the financial side, cooperation with the Bank of Algeria is planned in order to meet El Hadjar’s expenses and to pay off some of the company’s particular debts to third parties. Some initiatives are also planned in the field of human resources. Moreover, the cabinet has decided to hold further sessions to discuss mining and steel developments.
