Algerian Qatari Steel (AQS), one of the two large integrated steel producers in Algeria, now has an opportunity to expand its sales presence in the European longs market. The company has recently received certification for rebar sales to Lithuania and continues working on obtaining the same certification for other Baltic region-based countries.

According to the official statement, the certificate for AQS rebar sales was issued by the Lithuanian authorities on October 20 and covers B500B, 8-40 mm steel rebar. The certification is valid from the date of issuance and for the period during which the company’s production is in accordance with the confirmed requirements. This is the second AQS certificate for the Baltic region along with the existing one for Poland.

Currently, AQS has the capacity to produce 2.5 million mt of DRI per year and 2.4 million mt of crude steel. In the longs segment, AQS is capable of 1.5 million mt rebar and 500,000 mt wire rod output per year. The company has already gained presence in some African markets, the UK and Poland, and, as mentioned, aims to expand its presence in the Baltic and Scandinavian regions.
