Italian steelmaker Alfa Acciai, owned by the Lonati and Stabiumi families, is implementing an investment plan aimed at increasing production efficiency at its subsidiary Acciaierie di Sicilia, located in the city of Catania, Sicily.

Accordingly, Alfa Acciai has spent €20 million on construction of a new filter and exhaust system at the Sicilian plant, while in 2011 the plant's continuous casting line and scrap yards will be upgraded with a further investment of €8 million.

Acciaierie di Sicilia produces steel billets up to 11 meters long which are then rolled to produce rebars. Currently, the mill in question has an annual output capacity of 500,000 metric tons. 70 percent of its products are sold to Sicilian customers.
