AK Steel Corp. and the union representing the locked out Middletown Works employees, The International Association of Machinists, met Friday December 1st for nearly three hours in an effort to finalize a deal to get union workers back on the job. The two sides plan to schedule yet another meeting this week, said company spokesman Alan McCoy. The October 19th proposal still remains on the table. Approximately 1,800 workers have been locked out of the plant for nine months with the mill still operating with replacement workers. AK Steel is a producer of flat-rolled carbon, stainless and electrical steel products, along with carbon and stainless tubular steel products.
