United Arab Emirates-based AD Ports Group has announced that together with Japanese steelmaker JFE Steel they have joined the cooperation of UAE-based steelmaker Emirates Steel Arkan (ESA) and Japan-based ITOCHU Corporation through a memorandum of understanding to establish a first-of-its-kind low-carbon iron production complex in Abu Dhabi.

The complex aims to produce low-carbon emission raw materials, including hot briquetted iron, further enabling ESA to capture and meet the growing demand for environmentally friendly steel products while strengthening the UAE’s sustainable industrial ecosystem.

As part of the agreement, AD Ports Group will be responsible for providing the land for the new plant, as well as offering maritime/logistics services for the supply of iron ore to the new plant, and for the export of low-carbon emission raw materials around the world.
