A panel established to rule on EU safeguard measures

A WTO panel to rule on the EU safeguard measures was previously requested by the US, claiming that these measures are prepared without making proper investigations that stick with the WTO rules. As a result of the parties failure to settle the dispute during the conslutations they held together, the Dispute Settlement Body (DSB) established a panel to examine the US' above mentioned complaint, regarding the provisional safeguard measures that EU brings on steel imports. The EU, on the other hand emphasizes that the provisional safeguard measures are implemented in response to the US measures, aiming to protect their own industry from a very possible diversion of the steel trade initially aimed at the US. Argentina expressed its concern regarding its exports being effected by the EU safeguard measures. Two of the seven products that EU is planning to implement definitive safeguard measures on, are products exported by this country.
