The leading Japanese EAF-based steel producer Tokyo Steel has cut its local scrap purchase prices today, June 26, only in the Tokyo Bay region. This is the producer’s second price revision this week, following the price cut on June 24 for the Kyushu region.
Tokyo Steel’s general price range for H2 grade scrap has moved down by JPY 500/mt on the lower end as compared to the levels recorded on May 22 to JPY 53,000-54,000/mt ($328-334/mt) depending on the mill. Including the change in the exchange rate, the dollar-based quotations have decreased by $8/mt on the lower end and by $3/mt on the upper end.
Also, Tokyo Steel’s shindachi scrap prices have moved down from the JPY 55,000-59,000/mt ($346-371/mt) delivered range to JPY 54,500-59,000/mt ($337-365/mt). The prices shared in the table below are effective as of June 26.
