On January 30, SteelOrbis reported that the average domestic graphite electrode price in China for HP (high-powered) 450 graphite grade was reportedly at RMB 42,500/mt ($6,324/mt) while UHP 600 was reportedly at RMB 85,000/mt ($12,649/mt), all prices ex-warehouse.
According to sources, the latest average domestic graphite electrode price in China for HP (high-powered) 450 graphite grade is reportedly at RMB 35,000/mt ($5,208/mt) while UHP 600 is reportedly at RMB 70,000/mt ($10,417/mt), all prices ex-warehouse. The average price on HP 450 has decreased by $1,134/mt while the UHP 600 average price has decreased by $2,232/mt. The average price level of both grades decreased by 8 percent month-on-month.
A source noted that graphite prices in India have also trended down, though price range comparisons were not provided at the time of publication. He noted that Graphite India and HEG, both producers of graphite electrodes, have had their publically traded stock negatively affected due to increased prices of needle coke, the ending of anti-dumping duties on imports to India, limitations of export to Iran, softness in the domestic steel industry, high production in China above their local demand, and increased imports from China. The higher graphite electrode production in China has reduced supply-side pressures in the export market and “overall reduced electrode prices.”
