The situation in the scrap market in Russia remains somewhat tense while prices have kept on rising. Exporters have increased their purchase price levels, aiming to collect their required volumes, while the market in Turkey is still positive. Over the past week, the prices they are ready to pay for A3 scrap have increased by $3-7/mt (RUB 300-600/mt) to $273-277/mt (RUB 20,700-21,000/mt) CPT, SteelOrbis has learned.
Steel producers in the local market in Russia have had not much choice other than to follow the scrap exporters and to also increase their purchase prices in order to secure the volumes needed for production. As a result, over the past week the Russian mills’ scrap purchase levels for A3 scrap have increased by $8-12/mt (RUB 600-900/mt) depending on the producer and the region.
