Although lower US import rebar offers have been heard in the market from Algeria, sources tell SteelOrbis that interest remains low, especially as it seems US domestic rebar prices might be softening soon. Offers from Algeria are now around $42.00-$43.00 cwt. ($926-$948/mt or $840-$860/nt) DDP loaded truck in US Gulf ports, compared to $44.00-$45.00 cwt. ($970-$992/mt or $880-$900/nt) last week.
Offers from Mexico are also down from last week, but not by as much. Import rebar from Mexico has been heard at $46.00-$47.00 cwt. ($1,014-$1,036/mt or $920-$940/nt) DDP Houston, down only $0.50 cwt. ($11/mt or $10/nt) in the last week. Sources say they expect import offers to continue ticking downward in the near-term, although it’s unlikely interest levels will change.
