Over the past week, Turkish official domestic merchant bar prices have mostly remained stable in the local currency, while up by an average of just TRY 50/mt in the Karabuk region in order to offset the currency fluctuations. All merchant bar prices indicate a $4-6/mt decrease compared to a week earlier. In addition, one Iskenderun-based mill has set its equal angle price at TRY 20,000-20,300/mt ($654-663/mt) ex-works this week, at an exchange rate of $1 = TRY 30.60.
Most merchant bar sellers are offering either for March delivery or from stocks. A few re-rollers are also offering their HEA/HEB (550-700 mm, standard) at TRY 25,500/mt ($833/mt) for delivery to the Karabuk region. A few merchant bar re-rollers are applying aggressive pricing policies to generate sales, while taking advantage of the depreciation of the Turkish lira against the US dollar. Demand is generally sluggish for now.
