Over the past week, local Turkish official merchant bar prices have decreased by TRY 75-195/mt ($5-10/mt) amid currency fluctuations and sluggish demand. One Iskenderun-based mill has decreased its merchant bar list prices by $10/mt to $725/mt ex-works over the same period.
Most merchant bar sellers are offering for February delivery and only limited tonnages are available from stocks. A few re-rollers are officially offering HEA/HEB (100-200 mm, standard) at $950-970/mt ex-works, remaining stable.
According to sources, a few merchant bar re-rollers are applying aggressive pricing strategies and giving sizeable discounts for serious buyers. Kardemir is also expected to announce its merchant bar price list tomorrow. This situation also contributes to the silence on the demand side today.
