In the last two weeks, Turkish local merchant bar prices have raised by TRY 295-450/mt against the backdrops of the rapid currency fluctuations, and relatively firm import scrap prices. According to sources, most local buyers are on hold for new purchases ahead of Turkish Central Bank’s interest rate decision due on Thursday, November 18.
Most Turkish merchant bar re-rollers are offering material for early January delivery or limited tonnages available either from stocks or late December delivery. An Izmir-based mill has kept its price of HEA/HEB (100-200 mm, standard) at $950/mt ex-works over the same period.
