As of today, November 17, local rebar prices in the Turkish spot market have risen by TRY 200/mt ($2-3/mt) compared to November 13 amid ongoing currency fluctuations and firm import scrap prices. Consequently, local 12 mm rebar prices in the spot market are now in the range of TRY 28,200-29,000/mt ($555-571/mt) ex-warehouse, depending on the region, and with the exchange rate at $1 = TRY 42.33.
Official rebar offers for cash payments in the Marmara and Izmir regions, including İçdaş's prices, have settled at $560-580/mt ex-works, remained unchanged over the same period, while acceptable prices are at $555-575/mt ex-works, also stable over the same period. The higher end still seems a bit difficult to achieve under the current market conditions.
Sources say several Iskenderun-based rolling mills are offering rebar to serious buyers today at TRY 28,600-28,800/mt ($563-567/mt) ex-warehouse, up by TRY 300/mt ($5/mt) compared to November 13.
One Samsun-based mill has extended its rebar sales closure until Monday, November 24.
Most local buyers are monitoring the import scrap price trend and are still purchasing just in line with their daily needs.
