As of today, November 20, local rebar prices in the Turkish spot market have increased by TRY 100/mt ($1-2/mt) compared to November 17 against the backdrop of the ongoing depreciation of the Turkish lira against the US dollar. Consequently, local 12 mm rebar prices in the spot market are now in the range of TRY 28,300-29,100/mt ($557-572/mt) ex-warehouse, depending on the region, and with the exchange rate at $1 = TRY 42.37.
Official rebar offers for cash payments in the Marmara and Izmir regions, including İçdaş's prices, have settled at $560-585/mt ex-works, up by $5/mt on the higher end over the same period, while acceptable prices are at $555-580/mt ex-works, also up by $5/mt on the higher end over the same period. The higher end seems a bit difficult to achieve under the current market conditions. One Marmara-based mill has closed its rebar sales this afternoon after issuing its rebar price at $580/mt ex-works earlier today.
Sources say several Iskenderun-based rolling mills are offering rebar to serious buyers today at TRY 28,700-28,800/mt ($564-566/mt) ex-warehouse, up by TRY 100/mt on the lower end with only minor changes on US dollar basis compared to November 17.
Most local buyers are cautious as regards restocking material and are only purchasing in line with their daily needs.
