Local Bulgarian rebar and wire rod prices have fallen over the past two weeks amid relatively sluggish demand for small orders from stocks. However, merchant bar and beam prices have on the contrary increased over the same period. Most local buyers are taking their time to evaluate the details of the EU quota system which are to be finalized.
In the import segment, ex-Turkey rebar and wire rod export prices are available at $750-780/mt FOB and $850-880/mt FOB respectively for end-of-August shipments. Merchant bar offers are reported at around $785-795/mt FOB this week, with the average freight for regular lots estimated at a minimum of $15-20/mt from Turkey’s Marmara region. “Due to tight supply for merchant bar and beams, we do not have a big choice. We should accept the import prices at some point,” a source mentioned.
