SteelOrbis has been informed that in the past two weeks Italian rebar producers have started asking for price increases of at least €10-15/mt ($11-16/mt) despite the chronic shortage of demand. Currently, domestic rebar prices are around €440-445/mt ($480-485/mt) ex-works, though local customers are collecting the materials they ordered before the latest price increases at prices in the range of $415-425/mt ex-works.

Market sources said that local buyers are buying only when they need to, in order to fill holes in their supplies. In other words, they are not basing their purchases on price variations.
