In the past two weeks, the domestic price of Mexican rebar increased US$4/mt to reach US$679/mt ex-mill.

The increase reflects the positive attitude toward demand, following reports that the construction industry in Mexico will accelerate its step in the next two years through an ambitious program of government infrastructure and private investment, which is expected to generate energy reform, said sector sources.

The sector is expected to grow by 4.4 percent next year and reach an expansion of 6.2 percent in 2016. The expectation for 2015 is slightly better than a previous estimate of 4.0 percent announced last month by the leader of the national construction industry.

End-year growth of 2.0 percent is expected after a fall of 4.5 percent in 2013.
