Mexican rebar prices reverse trend upward

In the past two weeks, the domestic price of Mexican rebar increased by US$22/mt to reach US$642/mt ex-mill

The price recovery comes after several weeks of a downtrend. Sources tell SteelOrbis that while some distributors in the North wanted to “have a field day” and raise the price to $700/mt, customers objected to such an increase and prices have settled out for now.

The latest official reports say that the 2.5 percent contraction in the Mexican construction sector in January was the result of minor works related to the construction of civil engineering projects. This was a reflection of a reduction in demand for construction materials such as pipe and fittings, packaging tubes, electronic components, wire, wire products, and rebar, among others.
