In the past two weeks, the domestic price of Mexican rebar fell US$8/mt to reach US$664/mt ex-mill.

However, despite this slight drop in prices, long steel producers in the country are confident that recent actions by government agencies will stimulate demand.

For example, there is a government investment of 840 million Mexican pesos  (US$60 million) to build 6,000 housing units in 15 Mexican states: Baja California, Chiapas, Chihuahua, Durango, Mexico, Guerrero, Hidalgo, Michoacan, Nayarit, Oaxaca, Puebla, San Luis Potosi, Sonora, Veracruz and Yucatan.
