Mexican beam prices impacted by demand bubble

Mexican domestic steel beam IPR (ASTM-A6) prices fell about US$7/mt last week, down to the level of US$857/mt ex-mill. In the same period, prices of steel beam I (ASTM-A36) fell US$10/mt down to US$859/mt ex-mill.

According to sources, a dema "bubble" grew after the announcement of investment in engineering work two weeks ago, but because orders for products have not yet realized, the bubble deflated.

Last week, the Secretary of Communications and Transport (SCT), Gerardo Ruiz Esparza, assured that by the end of the second half of this year, investment in projects (that will likely use steel beams) will reach US$67 billion.
