Over the past week, local Turkish official merchant bar prices have decreased by TRY 200-300/mt ($26-30/mt) in the Karabuk and Iskenderun regions following Kardemir's recent sharp price decrease in merchant bar prices, while merchant bar prices have risen by TRY 400/mt, falling by $5-6/mt on US dollar basis in order to offset the currency fluctuations, in the Izmir and Denizli regions. One Iskenderun-based mill has issued its official merchant bar price at TRY 16,700/mt ($620/mt) ex-works, versus 16,850/mt ($644/mt) ex-works a week ago.
Most merchant bar sellers are offering for August delivery and only limited tonnages are available either from stocks or for late July delivery.
Most local buyers are exerting pressure for additional discounts and a few merchant bar re-rollers are applying aggressive pricing to generate sales. As a result, trading activity is still slow ahead of Turkish Central Bank's interest rate decision on July 20. A few re-rollers are offering their HEA/HEB (100-200 mm, standard) prices at $750/mt, excluding VAT, ex-works, SteelOrbis has heard.
