During the week ending June 18, Chinese domestic semi-finished steel prices have mostly moved on a downward trend, while transaction activity in the market has been at low-to-medium levels. Average prices of steel billet and slab in the local Chinese market are presented in the following table.
During the given week, demand for semi-finished steel in China has been slack as some rolling mills have cut their production activities due to shrinking profitability. Meanwhile, inventory levels of semi-finished steel have increased, exerting a negative impact on prices. It is expected that semi-finished steel prices in the Chinese market will soften further in the coming week.
