During the week ending November 6, Chinese domestic semi-finished steel prices have moved on a decreasing trend, while transaction activity in the market has been at low-to-medium levels. Average prices of steel billet and slab in the local Chinese market are presented in the following table.
During the given week, finished steel prices in China have followed a decreasing trend, weakening the support for domestic semi-finished steel prices. Capacity utilization rates of blast furnaces in China have risen slightly, resulting in increases in semi-finished steel supply. Meanwhile, ferrous metal futures prices in China have moved down, negatively influencing sentiment in the semi-finished steel market. It is thought that semi-finished steel prices in the Chinese domestic market will continue to soften in the coming week.
